No propagation on 15 and 10. 20 meters was up and down. 40 meters was very good. 80 meters was static crashes.

Couldn't spend as much time as I would like in QSO party, but had lots of fun. Ran in the LP category this year as the amp is under repairs. Activity seemed low compared to years past probably due to the not so good propagation. I did work several Europeans which surprised me since I was running 100 Watts and not 1500 Watts. As for mults, thanks to Mike, K9AJ, I was able to corner NU on 20 CW. But missed...are you ready...wait for it......IA, ND, NL, NS, PE, and YT. The VEs I understand, but Iowa and North Dakota. Where is KC0W when you need him? Oh yeah, out in the Pacific somewhere.

Well, all in all it was great fun again this year. Certainly different running LP.

I relinquished the use of N0N this year due to extenuating circumstances. Thanks to Ron, AD0DX for picking it up and giving it a good workout, from what I understand.

Bands weren't great, as expected, but better than I'd feared. A bit of EU DX on Sunday kept it interesting. Only had one antenna available, the DX-EE, as I started working on refurbishing the 4BTV a bit too late to get it up for the party.

I used Tlf on Linux for the first time in this party. Overall it did well but there are a few things to fix for the future. No computer or program crashes and no RFI issues due to shack improvements earlier this year. The main thing is that all log information was retained and the CW and phone macros worked flawlessly, if only the op in this shack could be so flawless!

Once again I missed the bonus station, KS0KS. :-(

I think there will be plenty of comments on the band conditions..no need to add my griping to that, right?

On Saturday evening , about an hour before the end, some very tiny thunderstorms popped up, and started to "train" right overhead....they were small, but packed a punch with plenty of lightning. Needless to say, that was enough to pull the plug for the night. I was not really happy with that, as my QSO count was lagging behind last years number... But hey, what can you do? Sunday started off great, but about halfway the bands went dead... The noise level went way up, and nothing much was heard... I even checked the JT65 & PSK31 frequencies, and they were dead as well.... Luckily it did not last long, dunno what that was all about. I enjoyed working as KØL again this year, and look forward to the 2017 edition.

Wow, what a well-oiled machine! Whoever is pulling the strings behind the Kansas QSO Party is doing a marvelous job. I was planning on looking for a few missing counties for my USACA but ended up convincing the XYL that painting the guest room can wait till next weekend.

The moblies were out in full force, and it seems they were not just any mobiles but seasoned veterans from both Kansas and far afield. Signals were often marginal but with some patience I was able to work most spotted stations. Some really skilled operators at the other end who were able to cruise the highways from county to county and still managed to have superb runs on 20m CW.

Thanks to all the Kansas station for a fun weekend!

Wish Ol' Sol had cooperated, 'cuz from up here this was a monoband contest. Worked K5YAA on 15m just before the bell tolled (and a little while after, in the actual contest) but only worked 2 other Q's the entire 6 hours of Sunday.

The RBN was showing my 15m CQ's well into entire W7 and also WB6BEE (OK) but either nobody CQ'd on 15m or it promptly died.

Too far to hear even home stations on 40m, and, well, 10m and 80m were out of the question. hee hee

For some reason I had a really hard time hearing Bob/W0BH pilot K0A and the other callsigns he was sporting, so I am sure there's a bust or two in some of those exchanges. Sorry, never heard you on 247 SSB Bob....there was a loud home stn there.

There was a 1x1 home stn in the mobile window and that made things interesting.

Very difficult band conditions on Saturday. Thunderstorms and lightning caused QRT for 2 hours. Sunday band conditions were worse with S-9+ noise levels on 40 and 20M. 20M was very long on Sunday. Both coasts were strong, but path to Kansas was impossible.

Could have had a Sweep Saturday but missed two counties that I know were on. Oh well, picked them up Sunday. One key mobile for me was N0Y. Duffey was the only station that activated HAS and he also gave me the Sweep from STN. My last five were: LCN, PHI, ALL, ELK and STN.

Despite weird condx/short skip, rates were good and as always this was lotsa fun from a fixed station. My wonderful SAL-30 rx ant was walking wounded as it needs some attention after an accident with the coax/control line. Last year I worked 34 of our 45 1x1 calls..... this year just 21. And despite not alot of DX in the log there was 29 DXCCs -- surely more than usual for W0S in KsQP.

What a blast the Kansas qso party! Such a great coordinator in Bob Harder W0BH.!

I teamed up with two different friends ,one each day. Saturday I joined up with Dave , W0DR and we drove his lil pickup to Joplin and had some hamfest fun. Then some human fuel at Crackerbarrel and a search for a voltage inverter to power a laptop. We tried one Dave had and it made so much RFI it was hopeless! A unit found at Walmart turned out to be a winner with NO noise hrd on the 4 bands we tried. EXCELLENT!! The device is a 140w Schumacher brand for 20 bux. So with all parts needed to operate we finally made a start on 20m at 1821z. First QSO, N6MU, John ! I see John has swept the counties again this year! Great job John! Congrats!!

I was surprised at the number of KSQSO stations I was hearing and being posted on DX Summit on 20 meters and not seeing or hearing on 40 and 80. the ones I worked were mobile going past Minneapolis. I spent 6 hours working NPOTA and catching KQSO here and there. Well at least I worked a few.

This year ended up being a bit of a grind, but I still had a great time. 20 was up and down, but when it was up it was excellent. 40 was pretty good the entire time. 80 pretty much sucked the entire contest.

I need better antennas. I'm still using a homebrew vertical for 80-10 as well as a second end fed half wave vertical for 20. I had quite a bit of contacts to Russia in the middle of the day on 20 that sounded like they were next door, but there were times I could just barely pull stations in Florida out of the mud. Strange conditions.

Next year I plan to build a 20M moxon and hopefully I'll have it up in the air in time for the next QSO party. Anything more than that and I'll have to buy a new house - which is a definite possibility.

I have to say without a doubt that the KS guys with some out of state help mobilize more operators to take part in their QSO party for longer periods than any other state per capita by at least a factor of 2 times! In only VA (not from here!), FL, PA, TX, or CA QP's is it possible to work more Q's. I am not sure, but would guess that I may have broken the out of state record even with no activity and very little prop if any on 15M (the band may have opened around 24Z on Es). This was aided by a certain mobile who passed out multiple calls, K0A (W0BH) and company. There were so many mobiles who operated nearly the entire party and it was a wonder two didn't collide somewhere in eastern KS where several times mobiles in the same county were worked within a few minutes. Eastern KS was very well covered and all counties were active. I am sort of getting used to the 40+ 1X1 calls active; It is getting a bit easier to wrap my brain around logging them. But I may have missed a dit on 1 or 2 weak
ones on 40 and logged a busted call.

This was a fun QSO party! Having operated mobile in two KS QP but unable to go mobile this year, I wanted to put in a fairly serious effort from the outside looking in. Fortunately I had time to do that, although I had to terminate Saturday operation early due to a thunderstorm in the area.

The mobiles were outstanding. I worked sixteen different mobiles: N0R(16), N0U(12), W0O(12), W0L(11), K0S(11), N0Y(10), K0A(10), W0E(8), N0K(8), W0R(7), K0P(5), N0N(4), N0T(4), N0A(3), N0Q(3), N0P(2). All had excellent signals into the New Orleans area and apparently I was being heard in KS as most responded on the first call and required minimal fills.

Activity seemed down a bit from last year or it could have been band conditions. My total QSOs and mults are both down compared to last year. I probably could have made a few more QSOs on Saturday. I arrived at my destination about 2 hours early so decided to call it a night and have dinner.

I covered a total of 32 counties this year, 20 on Saturday and 12 on Sunday. I made it to my last county, Wyandotte, with two minutes remaining and only made 6 QSOs in that county. I should have skipped lunch I guess!

Recording can be hazardous. The mic slipped out from between the headset used to gather audio from the K3 when WAB county came into play and remained on the seat until the last Q on Saturday night so the score is an estimate until Bob W0BH can sort things out.

I found activity to be considerably reduced from last year's run even though 20 was in fairly good shape for the entire run. DX signals were stout much of the daylight hours. Every state except ND and AK were worked and all but VO1 VE4 and VY1 were worked in Canada. 720 Qs are less than half of last years tally.

There are two questions that usually wait until the last minute to be answered in the Kansas QSO Party. Will we be able to field all 45 1x1 calls? And what route should I take this year? True to form, question one was answered during the last week when several new Rookie ops stepped up to cover the last several 1x1 calls. And question two waited for an answer until Thursday (last year it was Friday) with several last minute routes coming in that really helped the county situation.

To cover all the calls this year for our KANSAS, SUNFLOWER and QSOPARTY spelling challenge, XYL Lorna/k0why applied for N0T and Aaron/n0qd who has driven for me before, applied for N0Q. Then Ron/af5q emailed from Texas with a broken down car and said he would be unable to put K0P/m on this year, so he gave me permission to run his call as well. This was turning out to be an interesting weekend!
