Worked VE9AA for new mult with 20 seconds left before intermission. Then got him 2 more times Sunday. Also added WY SD in the last 3 hours, so just left NE PEI and the Frozen North on the mult table. Good short skip Sat. and even shorter Sunday.

Big thanks to W0BH and the organizers and cert makers - it's great to bask in the accolades of the appreciative participants.

Hard to make headway on 40 with lotsa QRN - sorry to the stations calling.

Tnx to the mobiles for creating the good county representation.

Was able to get KANSAS SUNFLOWER and QSOPARTY with the 1X1 calls. Conditions were decent on 20 but not on the other bands. Always great to work Bob K0A and Lorna W0Y who really make the QSO Party fun. A special thanks also to the other mobiles for their travels: N0K, N0P, W0L, K0O, and N0W. Looking forward to next year for another great QSO Party.

Had to work Friday night - so didn't get out to Chase County 'til late Saturday afternoon. Very hot and windy. The antenna was a 2 meter mag. mount whip on the car with wires attached to resonate on 15, 20 and 40 meters. The end of the wire was attached to a 15 foot high mast lashed to a cattle fence. Was pleased to work Hawaii on both 15 and 20 meters and OM2VL on 20M CW while running 5 watts. 40 CW seemed the most productive for a while, as it got dark a lot of QRM from the Ohio QSO party made it tough to make contacts. Sunday morning had family activities, got back out to Chase about 30 minutes before the end of the contest and put KH6LC in the log on 15 meter SSB right at the end of the contest.

KSQP was a lot of fun again this year. Being one of the special event stations made for more fun. Worked 46 states, most of the Canadian provinces, and 18 DX contacts. Everyone needs to remember there are bands other than 20M. I tried 80, 40, and 15M at different times. Never was able to find much activity there. 15M was open but with some QSB.

One OM asked me if we had sunflowers in Kansas. My reply: "Yes, it's our state flower and we have BILLIONS of them."

Was using N1MM for logging. It locked up on me with about half an hour to go. After three attempts to re-start it, I went to the old fashioned method: pen and paper!

Thanks for all of the contacts. See you again next year. 73, George

My first time to enter the KSQP as a mobile and the fourth time ever running mobile in an event. I am hooked for life hihi. The promotion of KSQP by W0BH and others makes for a great time by all. 45 1x1 ops WOW! Bob lit a fire under a lot of guys besides me to activate all those calls.

RF plagued our operation on Saturday, but we managed 301 QSOs. Sunday was my wife (N0JRO) and my 29th anniversary, and I convinced her to drive for Sunday's run. Slim (WA0BGV) was pretty tired and I think glad to rest up. They both did a FB job and I thank them. I'm still learning this mobile contesting thing and thanks to you who endure my flubups! I will be in the game better when I figure out how to get keyboard CW going. Now I use a logikeyer for memory keying and paddle the callsigns back. It is challenging to say the least while being bounced around on a two lane road HIHI. Jerry (K5YAA) passed us on Sat and my autotuner took off for his freq.! Way to throw out RF Jerry! I think I saw dead armadillos jumping when he went by them!

Thank you to all the stations who come out to play in the QSO parties, they are my favorite part of radio and CW is my favorite mode. I apologize for not trying SSB more. When I tuned up, all I could hear was Ohio on Saturday, and 20CW kept me busy Sunday. 73 everyone, I will try again next year. Mark KI0I.

Holy whirling Tornado's Dorothy!

Way more activity than I expected. Someone did a UFB job of getting all the 1X1 stns active. I spent most of the w/e doing carpentry on interior window's so was not able to devote as much time as I would've liked on this one, even though activity was FB. Felt 15m may have been open at times, but never worked a soul there. (sigh!)

Spelled KANSAS and SUNFLOWER. Also worked some other 1-by's and spelled QLY ! (whatever that means?!?) HI HI

Thanks a lot for the good ears. Many mobiles signals just at the threshold and with EU/AF/WHATEVER signals also present it was tough pulling it all out.

K0A/W0Y team did a FB job as did other mobiles. REally enjoyed this one.

Nabbed Ks0KS on phone as a total surprise bonus. I spent most of the time on CW. Cheers,

Thank you very much Bob - W0BH for organize Kansas QSO party. I taked part first time in 2011 and 2nd time this year. It was a awsome Party for me ... As usually, the beginning of the contest was very poor for me - very weak signals from mobile's, extremly high QRM from EU contesting stations on YODX (and other EU's calling CQ on mobiles frq) ... after 3 hours affliction I apologized about finish my "battle" with EUQRM versus KS mobiles and go home. Luckily I stay on QTH and made unbelievably numbers of QSO and 92!!! county. (heard another 8!!! ,but no lucky in the BIG pileup from USA).

15m: was excellent, clear, and FB signals from the USA, but unfortunately on this band was only very few stations.

20m: QQQQQQQQRM, but here worked with a most of my QSO's. Thank you for the patienc of all KS stations, when I called thro' the USA pileup.

40m: QRM from EU,but nice QSO's with KS mobiles. I try sometimes call on SSB around 7190, but nobody answered me :) ... all stations was over 7200 (I heard some), but here I can't transmit.

80m: I was shocked, when I HRD at 01:10Z K0N, 01:41Z W0S on my simple dipol. I called him about 10-10 minutes, but they'r don't copied my call.

Missed counties: BOU, CHE, CLY, COM, ELK, GRM, HOG, JAC, KIO, LAB, MGY, NEM, REP.

Missed 1 x 1 stations: W0K, W0N, K0F, K0L, N0Q, W0Q, K0P, K0T, N0T, W0T, N0Y. Worked total 34 .

The strongest mobil was W0L.

Please your QSL's for my US County award, and thanks again for the FB QSO's.

What a great QSO Party by the Kansas hams in both mobile and fixed stations. It was well organized and kudos to all who played. I operated QRP for this QP. Nothing new but I found myself waiting for the QRO stations to finish a run before my peanut whistle could be pulled out. Thanks to all who gave me a QSO.

Wish I'd had more time to participate. The results showed the words KANSAS and SUNFLOWER were achieved and working KS0KS on 40 SSB kicked in the 100 bonus points which are included in the score. Hope to see you again next year.

Wow, what a Party! Even more 1x1s and mobiles this year. The cw mobile frequency assignments worked beautifully as all the mobiles used them and it was easy to find them. It's a keeper!!

Needed 16 counties after Saturday and they were all scheduled for Sunday. Conditions were much better Sunday and I found them all. My last five were BRO, ATC, DON, CLK and OTT. Best moment of the Party was being given the sweep by Bob, W0BH/K0A. He is the force driving the Party and the turnout speaks for itself. Congrats, Bob!

Got 39 of the 45 1x1s. We all know mobiles make the Parties and this was no exception. Top mobile for me was K0A with 81 Qs followed by N0P(44), W0L(39), N0R(36), W0Y/W0O/N0K(28), N0A(27), K0O(21), N0W/W0E(16), N0U(15) and W0W(10).

Kudos to all the KS stations that participated, fixed and mobile.

I had a great time working the Kansas QSO Party as N0W. After a logging/computer glitch on Sat Morning which left little time for Decatur and Sheridan Counties we started to hit our stride in Norton County. My Son KD0JFP was my driver and we had a good time seeing new country on the back roads of NW Kansas. we covered 20 of our planned 21 counties with the addition of Ellsworth County. We didn't make it to Thomas County before the end of the day on Sat. We were able to log 318 contacts on Sat. Sunday went well with a circle of 11 Counties, although we were still unable to work Thomas County before time ran out. I wasn't to concerned because of all the stations that were working Thomas. We ended the contest with 598 total contacts, all but 2 were on 20 meters, we tried 40 meters on Sun but it was not very good. Propagation on Sat was better than on Sun.

I think the spotting site was good and I told a number of operators about it. maybe next year this can be better advertised.

Thanks to Bob and all who put in the time to organize this event. I am planning on next year. 73, N0W/WY0I

I had a suspicion the bands would be poor and I wasn't disappointed. With just low wire antennas and a trap vertical, things would be tough so I decided to run the amp this year. I managed 352 in the log which is far down from last year's total of 423 on low power with the same antennas. I suspect I'll be well down in the standings in the high power category but that is the trade-off to making sure that as many folks as possible could have an opportunity to work N0N.

Highlights include having OM2VL pop in on 20 CW around 2100 on Saturday followed by several DLs, and OH, and a G. On Sunday morning I gave a few calls on 15m as I had seen some spots for one or two of the mobile ops and worked N8II, OM2VL, and K7IA immediately and then, nothing. Another several minutes of calling resulted in silence. Clearly these ops were monitoring the RBN to find me so quickly and then having no other answers. For a calling station with a very limited station, the RBN helps others find me quickly and helps my score as well. Also, I had immediate answers on PSK31 so those ops were likely monitoring PASKReporter.info. Now, something like this for phone would have helped my rate on that mode which still requires tuning and listening.

Initially I loaded my 160/80m doublet on 40m in an attempt to assist others working me from close in via NVIS. That caused RFI into the USB port with the amp that I wound up using the memory keyer and the paddles to send everyone's call. That is why those ops received a lot of error dits from my station. Later I figured out that this was not a problem when on the trap dipole, the vertical, or on the doublet on 80m so I was able to use the program and eliminate sending mistakes. Yeah, I need more practice...

Just before noon on Saturday a strong signal started pumping my noise blanker. I widened out the display on the P3 to find a signal quite a bit stronger than any other down in the range the mobiles were operating. I suspect that my use of the amp caused them to shut down until they were well out of town! We didn't work each other, however.

This year I used a much nicer set of head phones--Yamaha CM-500--and left the aging Heil Pro-Set Micro in the drawer. The Heil had gotten painful (literally) to wear with glasses as they press directly on the ears. The CM-500 fits around the ears and I have no discomfort with them even with the glasses slipping underneath. The set includes a boom mic with an electret element that I can power from the K3. The set up gave me several unsolicited "great audio" reports which means it's doing something very well as I have a face for radio and a voice for CW! My thanks to everyone who works hard to make the Kansas QSO Party the overwhelming success it has become in a few short years. The innovative ideas keep the interest high. You guys do so much that we ops are the lucky ones who get to play along.

My first KS QSO Party from my new Missouri QTH. Modest effort... Too close for 20m at 100 watts... so many counties and contacts just aren't available to me here about 30 miles southwest of St. Louis, MO. So good to hear all my KS friends on the band. Unfortunately, one character short of "QSOPARTY"! The "T" stations were elusive!

I got to all the counties that I scheduled and put on QRZ, so felt good about that. Also was happy to provide N6MU some needed counties for his 3rd consecutive sweep. Amazing accomplishment and hearty congratulations to John.

I planned to make the best use of the 2 hours before the Ohio QP started by finding two county line locations close together and spending an hour at each. What I didn't plan on was the local farmers driving by to see what I was doing, so to stay on good terms with them, I took valuable operating time to explain about the QSO party and visit about the very dry weather in NW Ks and how their crops were doing. This happened at both stops.

It was hot (mid 90s) very windy in west KS both days. On the way back from one stop, I passed a cattle hauler semi that had been blown off the road into the ditch where he hit an embankment. Fortunately, he was empty.

Biggest problem at the county line stops was the flies. Trying to send CW with flies biting your arms and legs is a challenge! I ended up rubbing on a liberal amount of insect repellent to keep them away. Closing the windows and running the AC would have been a cumulative 10 or 11 hours of idling with the AC on, so I chose to fight the flies.

The only "nice" motel near the area where I needed to spend Sat night was already booked full a month ahead of time, so I had to settle for a "low cost" motel in Hugoton, KS. When I checked in and went in the room, I was greeted by...more flies! I guess they had the door open during the day for cleaning and it filled with flies. I spent an hour with a folded wash cloth fly swatter getting rid of them so I could eat my pizza in peace. If that wasn't enough, when checked my credit card statement Wed morning, I found that I had been charged twice for the room. After some phone calls, the guy said he mistakenly used my card number instead of the one for person renting the room the next night, and that he will send a refund check. We will see.

Band conditions seemed good to the states and Canada, but not much from Europe as in prior years. Worked OM2VL, whose signal was as strong as stateside stations, several times and one DL.

I ran an APRS cell phone app that seemed to work the whole way, so I hope some made use of it.

Thanks to everyone for all the contacts, and see you next year.

My plan was to put in a token effort in the Ohio QSO Party. About 1345Z I realized there was also a Kansas QSO Pary, which I thought would be a good check for the radios and antennas before the Ohio action started. Little did I realize this was a first class event! If I had known how good it was, I would have planned accordingly. As it was, I wound up mowing 2 acres of grass on Saturday, still put in my Ohio QSO Party effort, and had a cookout on Sunday, with me functioning as the cook! Not good planning!

Any QSO party is as good as the mobile activity, and it was a pleasure to listen to the quality efforts of the Kansas mobiles. Managed to work 96 of the 105 counties in my partime effort. I think a sweep would have been possible if I had cancelled all of my other activites. Congratulations to N6MU on his sweep, to the organizers for putting together such a fine event, and to the many mobiles who provided world class CW entertainment. I will come back another time. GUARANTEED.

45 1 x 1 callsigns made short work of spelling KANSAS SUNFLOWER QSOPARTY. Most of the 1 x 1's were mobile, and their many miles behind the wheel made for many mults. It was good fun to ride around Kansas with them!

15m was open to KS from NM. Too bad more ops didn't give it a go.

Many thanks to the Sponsors for the event and to the mobiles who set their courses to 2- and 3-county operating spots. Special thanks go to Bob, W0BH (Aka: K0A mobile), the Prime Mover for organizing the multitude of 1 x 1 callsigns and taking care of the "little things" that streamline events like this one.

Band conditions on 20 and 40 were pretty good from GA. Conditions seemed good on 80 too, but there was almost no activity there. A few very strong KS signals on 15M Sunday afternoon, but the rest of the KS stations didn't seem to know it and the ones who went there apparently quit when they didn't get many responses. I would have thought the skimmer would have helped that, but I was unassisted so I don't know if the KS stations on 15 CW were reported or not. Thanks especially to the mobiles. Great job by all.

Thanks for another great event! I really enjoyed working with the 1x1 call, which was a 1st for me. The "Part-Time" call worked out well, as I had to run around quite a bit. Luckily, due to a change in plans, I did get to spend more time in the chair than anticipated. CU next year!

Thanks to those who organize and administer this wonderful QSO Party. It just keeps getting better each year.

Again, my time was limited but I made more QSOs this year than last. BUT there were fewer CW QSOs resulting in a lower score this year. Also, I had 2 fewer mults.

Band conditions were not good on 10 and 15 although I was able to make several contacts on those frequencies. It could be that nobody really gave those bands a shot thus activity was diminished. 20 meters was the workhorse from what I could tell. Most of the Kansas stations stuck with 20 meters. 40 meters was very noisy at this location however, 80 meters was not quite a noisy. Again, lack of activity seemed to be the norm on 40 and 80.

Thanks to all that gave me a QSO. Especially thanks to the European stations that took the time to call. Great QSO Party. See you next year.

I originally started operating the contest to look for the 14 KS counties I needed on 40 meters, mostly in the west. I managed to work exactly half of them. I never heard Jefferson, the only one I needed in the east. I could not believe I worked the more difficult ones in the SW corner due to the short skip needed from the Denver area.

Most of my Saturday QSOs were on 40 meters; I did not hear very many KS stations on 20. Most of my Sunday QSOs were on 20 meters. It seemed to me that the mobiles did not do as good a job of going to 40 on Sunday as they did on Saturday.

I was able to spell SUNFLOWER, KANSAS and QSOPARTY "naturally", without the help of the bonus station, KS0KS. Thanks to all the mobiles and fixed stations for getting on in the contest.

Ironically, N0KV was operating mobile on Sunday (not in the contest), and swung through Cheyenne in the NW corner, one of the ones I needed. Unfortunately for me, Barry only operated 20 SSB and did not QSY to 40 that I know of. I think he continued due east, I did not need any of those.

Thanks to all who helped make the 2013 Kansas QSO Party another success.

My goal for this year was to transmit from all of the counties in southeast Kansas and to provide the "U" suffix for as many as possible. My XYL Karen drove us around to 20 counties. We planned to end our 2-week vacation with the Kansas QSO Party and a visit to Karen's parents. As it turned out, a funeral for a good friend of ours was scheduled for Saturday in Harvey County, so we rearranged our schedule so we could attend. Consequently, we were off the air for much of Saturday afternoon. Nevertheless, I was able to transmit from all of the counties in the southeast part of Kansas, either in the QSO Party or the day before.

I've read a lot of comments about how 15 meters was open, but few stations went there. I went to 15 meters three times on Sunday, but only worked one or two stations each time. Even though the band was open, it wasn't as productive as staying on 20 meters where most stations seemed to be. I did make sure I went to 40 for a few minutes in each county because there were a few stations that were almost always there when I called.

I had good intentions of making some SSB contacts to make sure the "U" suffix was available to all. However, I had a high noise level, in part due to the laptop computer that usually isn't running outside of the QSO party. I did try to find an empty frequency, but every time I asked, the frequency was busy. So, I ended up being in the CW-only category. I'm glad that the other "U" stations came through for the SSB folks.

I think the assigned frequencies for CW mobiles worked well, although perhaps not everyone was aware of the plan. There were times when the frequency was occupied by Ohio stations, a Kansas fixed station once, and an east coast station calling CQ Kansas (briefly).

Thanks again to everyone who hunted me down and made a contact. I hope I added a few counties to your multiplier count or helped you with USA-CA.

Ever since I moved back to Kansas almost eight years ago, Bob/W0BH has been trying to recruit me for his mobile adventures in various QSO parties. This year my schedule worked out for KSQP and I was signed up as N0P and scheduled to drive and operate for the day on Saturday. Bob has been my Elmer since the beginning of my interest in ham radio 20+ years ago, as well as one of my flight instructors in college, so I was really looking forward to this trip.

We started off with an on-the-road briefing on the day's plan, as well as some simulated QSOs to knock off the rust (demonstrated by my tendency to call CQ FIELD DAY rather than KS QSO PARTY). After that and a final pit stop in McPherson, it was 0900 and we were ready to roll.

Due to Bob's extensive experience (and my lack thereof) I started off driving while Bob handled the radio work. We switched seats occasionally and I was able to hold my own, but I still need practice logging and talking at the same time. After a while we found our comfort zone with me driving and Bob in the hot seat. (Both seats were a little warm due to a lack of air conditioning, but when you have a mobile station as well-equipped as this one, A/C is a secondary concern.) As I drove, I also was able to tag along on Bob's QSOs as a second contact. Two for the price of one is a pretty good deal! The real work came while operating from a three-county line with two operators. Six QSOs per station worked kept the fingers flying on the logging computer. I also became very familiar with callsigns like N4PN, N8II, and N6MU. Paul, Jeff, and John were there like clockwork in each county (except I think we missed one unfortunately.) We also looked forward to hearing Laci/OM2VL from the Slovak Republic. These were just a few of the many calls that became more and more familiar with each passing county.

The counties we covered that day are sort of a blur, so I'll refer you to the W0BH account of the day in this forum. The miles and QSOs flew by and we finally found ourselves back in McPherson parked at the interstate exit, with Jerry/K5YAA, Chuck/NO5W, and Alan/N5NA making dinner plans. I'm already looking forward to next year and the 2014 KSQP. In the mean time, I have plenty of new experience to learn from.

Thanks to everyone who helped make this a great time, and I'll see you next year (if not before!)

Nine contacts. I had many laughs at the comedy of errors taking place at my QRP field station at Great Bend, including a laptop that froze often. I don't even have a Kansas County on the list. No contacts, really, closer than 400 miles. Well, it was fun and I learned a lot. I had to shut down at 2 pm yesterday to continue on my way to Colo. Thanks for the opportunity to participate as a 1x1, but wish I'd done a better job for you.

Conditions were pretty punk. No 10 meter contacts though I tried a few times. Only a couple on 15. 20 was pretty much the money band with some 40 meters as well. Next door neighbor borrowed a BIG Plasma TV which ruled out 80 and caused much havoc on 40 this morning as well. Had a talk with him a few minutes ago and thankfully he doesn't like it and it WILL be going away in favor of one of the new LED ones.

We were able to log 381 contacts on Sat.

Our best effort in KS QSO Party. Thanks Dennis(K0DNG) and Rich(W0RPZ). One transmitter at 100 watts with 20m and 40m dipoles. We got Idaho with about 20 minutes to spare. 16 hours 45 minutes. Could not get Nebraska or Wyoming! CW was VERY active this year. We plan to do more CW next year. Thanks to Bob W0BH and his team for a great QSo Party.

Great idea with the 1x1 calls and spelling certain words! Wish there were more fixed stations activating more counties ...

This was one of the most enjoyable QSO parties I've participated in. The Bingo concept of spelling Kansas, Sunflower, or QSOParty is a great idea! Made the QSO Party more fun. Tried getting a grand slam of all three words for no other reason than they were there. The P's were very very successful in being on the band where I wasn't!

We had a great time operating in the school club category. We had students, alums, and faculty working in the station this year. We really look forward to next year and hope to have the station in a little better shape a year from now. Thank you to everybody who made the Kansas QSO Party such a fun event.

I came across KSQP quite by accident when tuning across 40 meters. I Googled to see what was going on. I'm not a contest guy but KSQP was a great weekend of fun. I was hooked for the entire weekend!

With three 1x1 calls all sharing the same mobile and radio, the choice of category was interesting. While I planned to enter Kansas Mobile Single-Op as usual, Aaron logged a few contacts for me at the very beginning while we were trying to decide how to proceed, so all three of us will enter Mobile Multi-Op this year. Congratulations to Chuck and Alan in N0R/m on what appears to be a win in what has suddenly become a busy category!
